It’s refreshing hearing a public health official be serious, cite the issue and talk about how we get vaccination rates up. We have no one in the US talking this way.

I do most of those things most days. Especially the stretching.

I just love this story. Because it’s gray. It’s not black and white. Williams did a lot of bad things. But he also helped build up the Jimmy Fund and helped kids without publicity. I’d just love to see your take on Williams 11/11

And then there is the disrespectful end, where his son John Henry coaxed his dad into agreeing to be cryonically frozen. Stories later came out that staff at Alcor mishandled Williams head. 10/11

He was the example of why great players make awful managers. His run with the Senators and Rangers. He hated pitchers and was impatient with hitters without his talent. 9/11

Despite this, he resented sportswriters and fans. Yet empathizing with him, I can understand why he was so resentful. Boston fans are fickle. The hate you on one at bat, love you the next when you hit one over the monster and boo you in the 9th when you boot one in the field. 8/11

His numbers of 2,654 hits and 521 HRs are impressive as is being the last .400 hitter. But he missed the best years of his career to wars. I had Copilot do some modeling, and Williams trended to a career with 682 HRs and 3,473 hits. His performance was in Ruth and Mays territory. 7/11

Resentful of being called up in the Korean War, he nevertheless flew with distinction and won an Air Medal for completing a dangerous mission and belly landing his damaged airplane. 6/11

He tried to get out of having his draft designation changed from 3-A to 1-A, but when there was enough pressure from a sponsor, he relented. Yet when he could have had a cushy gig in WW2, he became an aviator, become a gifted flyer. 5/11

His only focus and interest was on baseball. He seemed to be a pretty awful husband and father. He was a right winger, ahead of his time and thought Nixon was the greatest president of his lifetime. 4/11

The guy had gifts as a hitter no one understand. He discussed seeing a red spot on the ball - the seams spinning - so he knew where to swing. It seemed like he could only relate to great hitters. I remember seeming him talk to Tony Gwynn like a peer. 3/11

I grew up a Red Sox fan and as a kid, I thought Yaz was the original greatest player in franchise history. Then I learned all about Ted Williams. Or at least the superficial history a kid could digest. But as time went on, I found Williams to be fascinating because of his flaws. 2/11

Then one day, his performance just disappeared. Likely due to playing him 162 for years and year and having bad knees. But man, from 1980 to 87, just on a rocket pace to be one of the greats. 4 Fin

He walked a lot, but struck out a lot too. But the guy was awesome in the field. He won gold gloves at a Keith Hernandez level. 3

The guy could mash and hit for average. Before the steroid era, he was putting up what was considered crazy HR totals. Since he was a devoted Morman and would buy meals for teammates, but not alcohol, I feel confident he was not juicing. 2
