Mountain Leader, wildlife guide, otter groupie, I love nature, and I love science ♥️🦦🌳🪲🪼🌸🦉🦎🦈

Also a wannabe runner, thwarted cyclist, sometime rock climber, lapsed archaeologist.

The Isle of Arran is my home and I frequently crop up in other places too 😃.
Slime mould! Fuligo candidans I think. 🤓

Nice to see the Waverley as my ferry arrived in Brodick today (even if we did have to bob around in circles for 20 mins while we waited for her to come off the pier!).

Home after a busy few weeks working in Switzerland. It's been a blast but I am so happy to be back on Arran!

Beautiful walking today 💚🇨🇭

Travelling across Scotland today. Made it to Glasgow where I'm waiting for a bus. Absolute chaos at Buchanan bus station, but this is now a stan account for the brave young woman who is yelling out bus and stand numbers at the top of her lungs.

Absolutely love alder. A lone surviving alder in Glen Rosa was the inspiration behind my logo. It's now on its last legs, but happily, grazing has been reduced just in time for saplings to spring up around it. I hope that in the future, these young trees will help restore life to the Rosa Burn.

My other contribution this week is some lovely wild thyme, also in the Pentlands.

Marsh orchid- northern I think, seen in the Pentlands this week. ##wildflowerhour

Been a bit quiet on here lately, just busy doing life stuff I guess... today I was helping marshall the Shiskine Half Marathon. Currently injured and missing my running, so this got me my social running fix.

Howked the first 2025 tatties today too. Looks like it will be a bumper crop (this is just one shaw).

Growing strawberries for the first time this year and am astonished by how amazing and delicious they are (way better than shop ones)- plus easy! My main learning point has been to pick them a day before they ripen and then ripen them on a windowsill- stops slugs from getting them. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓

Cracking day out on the Witches Step on #Arran with the awesome Sheila. 🤩

Happy summer solstice to those who celebrate 🥳.

Up Cir Mhor today, with my pal Kate taking down the last remaining markers from last weekends Glen Rosa Horseshoe Race. Great chat, craic, and company, even if the view from the top was rubbish. 🥰 Nuis looks a bit glum here, but he had a ball (this is his "resting dog face".)

A bit of fun- but with a serious point. Why hire a wildlife guide or Mountain Leader?

Glen Rosa Horseshoe Race marshall vibes.

Wearing ALL the clothes and yet most of the runners came through practically naked! 😵

Well done everyone! Am especially proud of Kirstie Smith for organising the whole thing, and Corinna Goeckeritz for running so damn well and coming in as 1st local woman.

Today I was out with these lovely folk from across the pond. 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We spent the morning exploring historic Lochranza, with wildlife/geology thrown in, then headed into the wilds of Glen Catacol after a delicious lunch at the Sandwich Station. As you can see, there were no midges to bother us today! 🌬😁

Lovely morning out with these folk on one of my open coastal walks.
We were treated to lots of lovely coastal birds, harbour seals, and a very busy otter fishing off shore. 🦦 Can't ask for better than that. 🤩

Happy #WorldOceanDay from Lamlash Bay, home of Scotland's only No Take Zone and community driven Marine Protected Area. Protecting areas of the sea from destructive fishing practices is highly effective at restoring ecosystems and fisheries and helps our oceans stay resilient in a changing climate.

A different kind of day today. Over 25 years since I last wielded a trowel, I found myself volunteering for the NTS archaeology team, who are excavating the area around the recently discovered drawbridge!

Coastal Wildlife walk this morning. Otter spotting, fossil footprint discovering, and northern marsh orchid admiring kind of day! Next open coastal walk on #Arran is 12th of June but you can book a private guide any time (ish).
