So many fun options and all so expensive ;.;

I'm sure you've heard my fav phrase: "The only thing cheaper than a KLR is its rider"

They are heavy, but good enough at everything!

Today the timid shop cat decided to climb onto my lap for some attention and a nap. A big step from her not wanting to be perceived last year❤️

The Nissan Cedric/Gloria was exactly what I had in mind when I posted on the Daihatsu Move Aero. The boxy style with round lights is my jam XD

Just love the look of this style of headlights on JDM cars.

I was also super lucky that the 450 acted like a tripod when it went down. The handlebar, service stand peg, and rear signal bar kept the hot engine from crushing my leg and using the street as a belt sander until the sliding stopped. All for getting too close to the road shoulder.

That idiot avoidance is just a big part of safe riding. "What if he tries to punch me *here*?!" "Don't be there."

Luckily only once, I've been very fortunate. That good fortune is 100% thanks to good training and defensive riding. The one close call was catching some loose stones on a corner as I was getting to speed. The rear kicked out and laided it down in front of a minivan, that stopped in time.

"In front or behind, NEVER beside" was a rule the riding course had us repeat regularly. I know a guy that was thrown over a car that suddenly decided to cut into his lane instead of stopping and waiting for the car ahead to turn. We had a good talk about riding lane positions after.

I like a power buffer so I can accelerate out of the way of un-observant drivers. I'm either riding a safe distance behind another vehicle or keeping a safe distance in front. Physics will stop a bike faster than any car or truck, The bike and your body won't do much to help stop them.

The 450 was good to about 110km/hr or 70mph. Good enough to keep pace with the posted highway limits but not much extra if needed. I those first seasons I was mostly riding in city traffic where speed was limited to 80km/hr 50Mph. As I got the desire to try longer highway rides I upsized again.

I like to ride to the dirt roads for camping so the 5050 works well for me. If you find you need more traction for off road you can swap over to more trail biased later. I don't have any specific club or group, but I know plenty of my local furs also ride.

Haha no, the 125 stayed, I out grew it right after I passed the road test XD The 450 was from 1982 a classic carbureted 2 cylinder. I could wager your 350 is more powerful with the advancement since then!

If I remember correctly I'm using a 50/50 road/trail tire on the KLR, they work well enough on hard packed dirt roads and loose gravel. The rubber compound has been longer lasting than the knobbies another local klr guy used. He also had balance shifts when leaning from the side lugs on pavement.

Smaller displacement bikes are good to learn on. I learned on a Honda cb125 that was provided by the riding school and rode a cb450 for a few seasons as my first bike.

The important part is having a bike to get out and ride on! Out of curiosity what did you pick up for a bike?
March 28, 2025 at 4:12 PM
The front tire is thinner than the rear, and she corners really well without big knobby side lug offroad tires. The KLR's are a good test bike for deciding if you really want a trail/adventure or cruising/touring bike. It isn't the best at any of them, but it will give you a taste XD

It's a Kawasaki KLR650 of '08. They are heavy for a duel sport, but have a good size fuel tank. This one has a few custom mods to go with all the aftermarket adventure gear too
