2025: Now in undeniably the fastest cars on the grid, Norris and Piastri ran 1-2 for much of the race, but a sudden downpour caused both cars to run wide at turn 12 on lap 45. Norris was able to hold his lead, but Piastri was stuck in the grass. He eventually got out, but tumbled down the order. P9.

2024: McLaren had recovered to have one of the quicker cars in the field again, and when Verstappen retired early, the race was suddenly wide open. However, Ferrari took a 1-2, and McLaren asked Piastri to step aside and allow Norris to take the extra points. P4 again, and the curse continues.

2023: In the off-season, Ricciardo was replaced by Piastri at McLaren, however the team had not had a good start to the season, and Piastri was knocked out in Q1. However, a string of late-race incidents allowed Piastri to score his first world championship points at home as he finished P8.

2022: After a few years off the F1 calendar as a result of the COVID pandemic, and a change to the papaya orange of McLaren, Ricciardo actually had one of his best results of an otherwise rough year at Albert Park this year, finishing P6, right there with teammate Lando Norris.

2019: Ricciardo's first home race at Renault was over almost immediately, as he lost his front wing jostling for position heading to turn 1. He carried on, but later retired due to the damage. I remember hearing the crowd collectively groan so loud it could be heard over 20 F1 cars on the broadcast.

2018: Ricciardo again finished P4 this year, and was probably his best chance at redemption for his 2014 disqualification. He finished less than a second behind Raikonnen in third, but just couldn't find a way past, leaving another chance at a podium begging, and the curse intact.

2017: This year's campaign was arguably when the Red Bull's unreliability was at its worst, as Ricciardo had troubles in qualifying, took a grid penalty for a gearbox change, started from the pit lane after an issue on the way to the grid, and then stopped again for good after about 25 laps.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2016: A somewhat more competitive (if still unreliable) Red Bull saw Ricciardo equal Webber's best finish of fourth this year, but the Ferrari of Vettel and the two Mercedes were still too strong, meaning the curse still remained.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2015: By this point, Mercedes had well and truly taken over as the dominant team on the grid, and Red Bull had slipped well behind their rivals, hindered by an underpowered and unreliable Renault engine. In light of this, P6 was actually an okay result, even if he was a lap down and behind a Sauber.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2014: With Ricciardo taking Webber's place at Red Bull, Ricciardo appeared to have immediately had better luck than his compatriot, crossing the line second behind Rosberg. However, a breach of fuel flow limits meant he would end up disqualified, and stripped of his podium.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2013: Webber again started 2nd, completing another Red Bull front-row lockout, but KERS issues meant he dropped to 7th off the line. He made a place back up to finish 6th, while Ricciardo retired with mechanical trouble.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2012: Webber has his best result at home this year with P4, but still falls agonisingly short of the podium. Ricciardo also has his first home race this year with Toro Rosso, finishing 9th.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2011: Webber matches his previous best result at Albert Park with fifth, but at this point he's in the fastest car on the grid, and teammate Vettel goes on to win, so more than likely expectations would have been a fair degree higher here.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2010: After qualifying promisingly on the front row, Webber has a scrappy race, and attempts an ill-fated dive on Lewis Hamilton into turn 13 with just 2 laps to go, with catastrophic consequences. While it wasn't day done, Webber finished P9, a minute off the lead.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2009: A terrible start off the front row from Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello saw him drop way down the field and get caught up in a big turn 1 pileup. Webber was caught up in the chaos, and while he continued on, he never featured prominently, and was last of the finishers a lap down in P12.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2008: Webber has another DNF after survivng a turn one melee at the back of the field, only to be clipped by Anthony Davidson in a Super Aguri at turn 3. I remember a back page headline in the newspaper saying "we're lucky we don't build aeroplanes" after brake issues in qualifying saw him start P15
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2007: In his first race for Red Bull, Webber started a respectable 7th, but finished a disappointing 13th, a lap behind eventual 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen, defending 2006 champion Fernando Alonso, and a debutante by the name of Lewis Hamilton.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2006: Webber DNFs with a mechanical failure. Before this, he actually very briefly led the race as other cars in front took their pit stops, allegedly becoming the first Aussie to lead the Australian GP since it was added to the championship calendar.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2005: One of the better home races for Webber in his first race with Williams, even qualifying third in a wet session. However he dropped to fifth after passing Trulli, but being beaten out by Barrichello, Alonso and Coulthard. Still no podium though.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2004: After qualifying a strong 6th, Webber again DNFs, this time with transmission issues.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2003: Webber DNFs on lap 16 after a rear suspension failure. This was after running briefly in the top 5 after starting in P14.
March 16, 2025 at 2:27 PM
2002: Webber takes his famous P5 on debut with Minardi. Organisers convinced Webber to stand on the podium after the race, which I believe is what started the curse.
