Lover of dusty libraries
A bunch of them are Venture Capital, and that business is much more hitting HEADS five times in a hundred when everyone else hits it once or never….. which is much worse for them mentally.

Maybe someone told him the B1G schools and various prestige Midwest private colleges are HBCU?

DeCecco is good for dried pasta but it’s already 2-3x the price of the domestic produced stuff like bottom of the barrel Creamette.

There was a David Milch interview where he talked about Deadwood and the choice of using copious modern profanity in dialogue to emphasize how profane they were back then instead of using period profanities that would sound off to modern ears.

I quite enjoyed it when it came out, but that was what feels a lifetime ago. Clarke’s unfortunately published little but it’s definitely above average.

When he gave that speech in 2006 there were still some banks with tubes! (for the young - bank drive throughs used to have pneumatic tubes to do banking, these lasted later than office pneumatics)

“Wonder Boys” managed to be more annoying for having him spurn the much younger woman that wanted him.

I’d like them to spike the franchise with a neo-noir “Star Wars: The Long Goodbye”

They absolutely would have if it didn’t impact their flights home.

if they owned any old pulps they’d see how the acid rots the paper, so much so that many are unreadable, and how half-hazard the printing was.

Are Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons to blame for the bad art made under their names by their many assistants?

Not that assistants are bad or new but the artists allegedly can be rather removed from the process, in ways that someone commissioning a 16th century fresco would object to the Master being

I guess BlueSky doesn’t like being told the reason DCA has longer distance flights is certain western Senators didn’t want to change planes?

I propose a two permutations - that much of it survived because there often wasn’t a way to make it cheaper people just did without, and people look at grandpa’s violin as grandpa’s violin, not some junk quasi-mass produced by peasant farmers 125 years ago and sold by a megacorp (Sears).

I knew normal-ish people in that era who had cabins or camps, but those were small 3-season at max affairs, not a 4-season second home, and people don’t want to own those small places anymore.

These are also the ones *you can find* because the markets don’t have that many participants so the people making hundreds of bets stick out, like the guy who got caught betting on college baseball by trying to place an enormous wager on a game where the casino didn’t even have a book.

Are the handscrews ACME threaded? Jorgensens were, a number of the cheaper HF clamps didn’t use to be, also could have bad QC like failing to rivet a clamp head. The parallel jaw clamps posted above look really nice though.

At the lower end I’m not sure there’s even a tolerance difference, as much as a branding/distribution/product support strategy difference. If you buy from Grizzly you’ll get spare parts (that are mostly cross-compatible with clones) other vendors might not have any spares but it’s half the price

Harbor Freight practically obliterated the used tool market at all but the high end, and my experience is quality can be all over the map.

I think there’s some rhyming with the US WW1 and WW2 war profiteers, some of whom just rebadged stuff at a substantial markup.

Trump was shot and it took almost a week to get details on his health, the difference is how the press treat him. If I were to describe it it’s the press looked at a declining Biden and tried to figure out ways to explain it but failed, and Trump is declining and they don’t try to explain it.

When did they install the velvet ropes? And why?
November 7, 2025 at 11:04 PM
Not being ignored by whom? There was a multi-day invented Biden has Parkinson’s scandal, now the press is doing the Swan shrug when asked to look into Trump’s MRIs etc.
November 7, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Trump’s sundowning in front of the press right now and they are silent, don’t think infirmity was the issue all they care about is access. Donnie dementia can drool in front of them and they won’t say a thing.
