If you're not enjoying C++, you should definitely check out Rust. There are other pains in Rust, but it's a wonderful language with far fewer footguns.

Although I think this is a good idea in practice, a small standard library can improve compilation times.

There possibly could be ways to split the standard library up into many modules that can be included as needed, but I think a smaller standard library is preferable.
