Moved from France to the rural US Midwest ~age 10 & worked SO hard to shed my accent to fit in - but unfortunately despite being back in Europe approx 30 years now, my US accent has stuck.
OTOH, was later able to weaponise the 'Perky Midwestern Nice' accent to terrify posh senior lawyers.

We used to have those at a deli I worked at in Ohio in the '90s - favourite thing was to bite off both ends & use them as a straw to drink the unlimited hot coffee.

Ugh, yeah - I had to officially cite myself to get around that problem. But then there were *even more* weird niggles, since TurnItIn then decided I had plagiarized the word 'the', the phrase 'et al', and the entirety of the year 1996.

A couple of friends & I used to do this every year: grab a cottage in Cornwall (with no wifi!) for a week or two in the off-season, punctuating our writing with playing with the fireplace & watching dramatic waves crashing against the cliffs.
