So the govt is going to 'build' a new National Forest between Cambridge and Oxford. As a taster, here's some of what that might look like

I see Cambridge's traffic congestion season is well underway

Here's how it's done in Cambridge. A long stretch of pavement outside Emmanuel closed, with bonus pavement parking for the contractors. Pavement users can just ... go in the road unprotected I guess

Meanwhile on Farcebook, Cambridge's pro-motor agitators have discovered to their horror that mooted 'parklets' are nothing to do with parking, but will "block TeH RoAd" (which presumably parked cars somehow don't?)

A coach thunders back down Cambridge’s Cromwell Rd (notionally part of the Chisholm Trail) after finding there’s no way through the width restriction at the South end. That passage for motor vehicles does more harm than good – time to close it?

A points failure near Cambridge has brought rail traffic to a near standstill and had knock-on effects for the roads around the station in Cambridge. But for the dunderheads in the pro-traffic Facebook group, the cause is ... something else

So, the pro-motorists' legal challenge to Cambridge's Mill Road bus gate crashes and burns. Surely that will be the end of the matter ?

This Mill Rd trader is doing great work showing that a motor car is not needed for 'last mile' delivery, even for bulky items like rolls of carpet. A good cargo eBike would do well too. Powerful argument for a zero-car Cambridge ...

I'm sure the new mayor will be shocked at the number of motorists committing driving offences and maybe support harsher punishment for them as a way of upholding law and order. Oh ...

Meanwhile, over on the hellsite that is X, some drivers are overjoyed at the election of a pro-pollution Tory mayor and wondering if they can rat run over Mill Rd Bridge again. They might be a bit peeved to learn it's never been in his authority and he's played them for fools

In the unkempt scrubland that is the outside space in the "Ironworks" housing estate in Cambridge, dangerous Hemlock is spreading which, especially near children's play areas, is not great. Who is responsible for seeing to this?

Yeah I know today's carbrained "prison for cycling killers" headlines were bad enough, but looking at the Guardians "Related news" links makes one realise how deeply antipathetic this country's govts are to active travel and environmental improvement, seemingly for ever ...

Cambridge has yet another (is that five now?) motorist lobby group pumping out dumb publicity. They don't seem to know that Cambridge's bad and unpredictable congestion problems mean the only reliable ways to be 'on time' for anything are walking/cycling/wheeling
