Down syndrome is the BEST thing to happen to me and my goodness and I thankful my sweet boy carries that extra chromosome. He wouldn’t be Elijah without it.

Down syndrome is a genetic condition where a person is born with 47 chromosomes in their cells. They are born with an extra copy their 21st chromosome, which is why it is also known as Trisomy 21.

Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells. In each cell there are tiny structures called chromosomes. Chromosomes are small packages of genes in our body. The DNA in our chromosomes determines how we develop. Typically people have 23 pairs of chromosomes in each of their cells (46 in total).
