Dogs, plants and Bob Ross
A little thing I started today inspired by the first song the Pandora played. Hint...It was by Blondie.

Layla's still got a little hitch in her giddy up, but she seems to be doing better. She's also kinda stoned, but at her age I think it's ok if she's a little stoned.

The dogs are disappointed in the lack of cheese given this morning and are considering launching an invasion of the kitchen. Layla has sent her Minister of Adorable, Oscar, ahead to negotiate for the release of the cheese.

Pupdate-Layla's arthritis is progressing and they both have kennel cough, despite annual vaccination, probably picked up from the groomers. So now Layla is on an extra antiinflammatory and they're both on antibiotics and no one can have cheese til they're done with the doxycycline.

This one decided to start limping halfway around the block. She wasn't limping when I got home, didn't slip/trip, nothing in her toes, just started randomly. So of course I'm going to take her to the vet. What are the odds she quits limping before we get there, just like the last 9,876,543 times?

In light of recent events, we're buying a new water heater and boiler this weekend because both are 40+ years old and functioning solely on good vibes at this point. Woo. 😑

Day 14 was our last day in Tokyo. We spent the day mostly shopping and exploring more of the neighborhood. We ended up having to buy an extra suitcase to bring all our shopping home and Chris accidentally ordered the tiniest beer ever at lunch.

Day 12 we visited Shibuya (the Shibuya Crossing is nuts!) to go to Tower Records and Shinjuku to see Godzilla. I got to listen to the new Offspring album in Japan, so that was pretty cool. And it's the 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty and we found a Sanrio store I spent too much time in 🤭

Day 11 we moved to our last stop, Tokyo. We stayed in Asakusa near Senso-ji Temple and it's a great spot. It's not as crazy as Shibuya or Shinjuku and is really lovely, especially at night! We did a lot of souvenir shopping and found a heavy metal bar called Orange Room that we loved.

Day 10 we did the "Hakone Loop" with a switchback train, cable car, ropeway and "pirate ship" cruise across Lake Ashi. Our favorite parts were the Hakone Open Air Museum (the Picasso Gallery was phenomenal) and the views from the lake. Plus My Fuji views from the ropey!

Day 9 we were off to Hakone! Hakone reminded us of home with it's small town mountain vibe (except we don't have volcanic hot springs in Roanoke). We got a late start and the bulk of our day was spent on the train but the extra travel was absolutely worth it!

Day 9 in Kanazawa we visited the Nagamachi Samurai district, the 21st Century Museum of Modern Art and the nighttime illuminations at Kanazawa Castle and Kenroku-en Gardens. We found a bomb ass Neopolitan style pizza and a 90s grunge bar serving texmex BBQ nachos.

Day 8 we set off to Kanazawa. We love love loved Kanazawa! Kenroku-en Gardens and Kanazawa Castle were stunning. And we had pork belly on a stick.

Day 7 cont. Our last night in Kyoto we spent in the Pontocho Park area where we had a shabu shabu dinner at a traditional Kyoto restaurant, beers on the Komo river, and ended the night at Yamaneko Craft Beer and Sake playing board games and listening to the best early aughts emo playlist ever.

Day 7 was our last day in Kyoto. We headed to Arashiyama to check out the monkey park. The hike up to the monkey park had me questioning all my life choices. But monkeys are the best. Especially baby monkeys. How do they look like babies and grumpy old men at the same time?

Day 6 was a day trip from Kyoto to Nara and Osaka. Nara is delightful. The deer park and Todai-ji are amazing. Osaka is a whole vibe from Namba Yasaka to the neon lights of Dotonbori.

Day 5 we took a day trip from Kyoto to Kobe. Kobe was absolutely mental in the best way possible and most of the good stuff is GoPro footage that (still) needs to be edited.

Day 4 cont...we grabbed lunch at 7-11 and then spent a couple hours exploring Kennin-ji Temple before having the best meal of our lives at Teppan Tavern Tenamonya.

Day 4 we visited Fushimi Inari shrine and learned to use google lens to find hand lotion.
November 27, 2024 at 11:50 PM
Day 3 we landed at Haneda and hopped on the Shinkansen to Kyoto.
November 27, 2024 at 11:43 PM
Since our whole Japan trip was posted over on the bad place I'm going to start reposting here where the nice people are. Days 1-2 involved flights from Roanoke to Dulles to Newark to Haneda.

Love it! I'm a terrible photographer but here's one from Kyoto that I think turned out well.

The world's going to shit but we had a couple cases of short dated Zebra Cakes in the warehouse in Richmond so at least I got some free snacky cakes.
