When asked which #linux distro is my personal favorite, I don't really have an answer. Different distros do things better. My *nix journey has been SunOS
Irix
AIX
slackware
redhat
solaris
openbsd
SLES
RHEL
HPUX
centos
ubuntu
mint
Devuan
Void
Gentoo
RHEL
Kubuntu
Pop!_OS

They all have ups and downs
There are true patriots, and there are "patriots", bowing to some malleable definition of the term that benefits the propagandist most

And now we gonna have "paytriots". Ugh.

The mmo problem of self sufficiency:

I need to be higher ilvl to do this thing
I can craft gear!
I need these raw mats
Oh and better crafting gear
And now I need to gather rare mats
And I need better gathering gear.

There is now no way I can do the thing I want in the time I have :(

While I am fine with a gui, I still find the command line to be a more concise & precise tool for interacting with a computer.

I am glad that linux and bsd have fully featured CLI environments

The other guys have poweshell too, I guess.

I feel like some distros for #linux are just about polished enough to fuel the year of the linux desktop. But how to channel new users to these distros best and away from the ones that are less user friendly?

(I named no distros in this post on purpose to illustrate how just linux isn't helpful.)

Politics is not a team sport. Why do so many people seem to treat it like one?

Sometimes I like to think about resilient computing. How would one build a computational engine that would keep processing for longest amount of time possible?

Lasting a year is something an electronic computer can already do. But what about a decade? A millenia? A geological era?

Was done to me once. The prankster hasn't been back since...

There's a whole generation of coders out there who learned the best path to job security was to make code so arcane, obtuse, and inscrutable that only they could have any hope of maintaining it.

I've seen multiple critical apps done in this style, and the grinning wizened goblins who wrote 'em.

Utf-8 is really great. Binary log files are a total 0 for me. Looking at my *nix journey, you might see the point where I tried to avoid systemd. Keeping binary log files was one reason for that.

I see a problem. Politics and tribalism do not mix well. Replacing nuanced positions, compromise, and persuasion with loyalism based on a tribal identity is not good.

Buying into it by pushing the other tribe away just makes them cling more closely together. This is the opposite of compromise.

Looks like ISPs got the malicious genie. Careful what you wish for... arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

So now instead of one standard they might have to adjust to 50? How onerous for these multibillion dollar monopolies!

(internet service should be a public utility btw)
Big loss for ISPs as Supreme Court won’t hear challenge to $15 broadband law
ISPs fear more states will regulate prices as New York law survives challenge.
