I really blame Pixar or something for this idea that the best way to tell stories is to aggressively sand them down so it’s perfectly constructed story cubes to digest has made people think that a delicious meal with some shaggy edges is a failure instead of a delight.

it’s like Stephen King or Type-Moon more than shared universe superhero comics so far, although I’m very tempted to do stuff like that too.

Also: “James Bond is a code name” is a lazy and “continuity-first” retcon patch job that just doesn’t hold water. James Bond is James Bond, the son of Andrew Bond and Monique Delacroix Bond, and has been one character for 70+ years. Just tell a good story between the titles. It’s not a soap opera.

not to toot my own horn too much but I’ve already done this in my own writing. I’ll reuse some names and concepts and if the reader wants to draw any information from that, they’re free to do so. It’s just for fun.

I like continuity and references. I’m one of the girls who gets excited when Stephen King drops something about that old hotel that burned down. But it always always always has to be about joyful connectivity. once it’s burdening your storytelling, dump it!

if it was “a mistake” (which I don’t even agree with that) then even moreso, just move on. and don’t say anything about the MCU to me because they have handled resurrections before and they have just ignored stuff before!
