Classy netizen taking a spin on the wheel of time.
One of my favorite aspects was the camera itself. The way it captures the zoomed out isolation and at other times the extreme closeness and intimacy. You feel with the characters, their warmth. Brendan Fraser blew this role out of the water. Thank you movie for letting me peek into the window.

I excepted it to be emotional and heartwarming but it was also surprisingly very funny! Normally I don’t like how cheesy Japanese acting is but everyone here was so believable. I was sucked in completely. A love letter to and its culture. Captures that feeling of being a foreigner perfectly.

The spiney-er the pineapple the sweeter the juice.

But likely I was off the mark slightly with respect to the space egg and subsequent civilization collapse. Perhaps it was closer to an invasion than a biblical test. Or both, the story of the Ark would support that theory. As short as it was it still took its time and built atmosphere. Cool watch!

The ideas I was toying with were fertility and the hubris of mankind being its downfall. I thought maybe the little edit girl was the embodiment of purity, virginity, or innocence. There’s more than a few unexplained things. The aggressive fishermen needlessly destroying town was in support of that.

“Oh thank god” ~ Stranger in the theater when the final chapter started.
It sure was one of the movies of all time.

The actors were… fine. I didn’t feel anything for the caricatures. The villain had the worst dialogue I could have imagined.
I’m not gonna talk about all the things that make no sense because if the movie doesn’t care then neither will I.

I guess because if the war they couldn’t hire any actors that speak actual Russian so imagine my surprise when they busted out the Finnish at the end. So over the top that it was almost funny if it wasn’t so ridiculous and pointless. Definitely have to turn your brain off here. And so GORY! Why?!?

I also loved all the technical aspects, it looked and sounded great too. Slow and intentional there wasn’t a wasted second here. Especially, I feel, for men to expose their vulnerabilities and be honest with their feelings and themselves. I couldn’t get enough. I hope more things like this get made.

It was such a pleasant surprise to see that they cast the people who were actually involved in the program this was based in. It really gives you hope when you watch something like this. Life is hard but being there for each other is the only thing we can do. I loved seeing that and I felt that.
