For the grand finale, @harryfrombarrie.bsky.social and I (badly) sang Smudge "Happy Birthday" and presented His Royal Catness with a mountain of red sockeye salmon on a new pink pedestal bowl, with a pink candle on top. He was in his glory, as you can see!

Smudge's "big" birthday gift was a proper harness and leash so we can go for walks in the backyard! I also want to take him on a picnic with sardines, goat's milk and treats before the summer is over!

As predicted, Smudge was THRILLED with his bag of plastic springs! But that wasn't all! Being a spoiled "only cat" there were more surprises to come!

Smudge's faaaavourite thing in the world is plastic springs, but he shoves them under the stove just so he can try fishing them back out. Inevitably, they all get lost under there! So for his bday, I dug them all out & put them in a gift bag with tissue paper, knowing he'd lose his mind!

When we adopted Smudge, no one knew his bday. I deduced he was born in July, based on his deceased previous owner's Instagram, so I chose July 1st as his bday at his 1st vet appointment. He turned 2 last month, so @harryfrombarrie.bsky.social and I got him gifts & a special dinner! We even sang! 😊😸

Smudge is a highland lynx & his ears are smaller than a normal cat's. They're made of hard cartilage & they not only always stick straight up, but they curl slightly toward the back! This is a "feature" of the breed...but it means his ears get VERY dirty & require constant cleaning!

Smudge came to us in Oct 2024, after our friend/his owner passed away. Despite being 15 mos old, he'd never been to a vet before, so he was intact & marking and in need of neutering, a physical & all his vaccinations. 🙀💉🩸💸
