Let’s survive this hellscape together! 🙃
I do art and run my mouth and sometimes post pictures of my dogs.
It’s so funny how QOL has stopped being the focus of medical care once medical care was made profitable.

You can easily reverse Google image search someone’s pic and find the og artist though, and choose to support that artist, or not, after discovering them. Using AI for profile pictures etc just normalizes not making art by human hands. And package design does count as art, it’s a marketing a product

Not sure why but the gist is that, to me, creativity means a person making the artistic effort themselves. If you don’t want to put in the effort to learn the skill, paying an artist for the service of making art is reasonable. Someone making art you don’t feel like making is a service.

My criteria for creativity is a person making an effort THEMSELVES to make art. You’re choosing to use AI when you’re capable of either learning the skill yourself, or putting in the effort to pay someone to do what you don’t want to learn because that’s a SERVICE provided to you.

And not using AI to steal from artists has no relation to that at all, that’s still possible in a world with artists getting paid what they’re worth when they sell their art.

Companies that choose to automate have a responsibility to their employees to make every effort to retain them at the company for their same pay, even in a new position, because their whole profit model depends on employee labor. They owe it to the folks whose work made them rich.

Why is stealing from artists okay to you? And don’t tell me it isn’t stealing, you have to come up with a better argument than that.

“I’m poor” get a better job, save better, as people like to say. “I can’t draw” start learning. “I don’t owe artists anything” No you don’t but you also shouldn’t be using the content stealing machine because it steals. Do you steal your groceries, not pay your doctors, steal your car, etc?

No one is suggesting going back to pre-auto times. It’s not authoritarian to say that choosing to not support your fellow humans making fair pay for their creative efforts is wrong. You’re deliberately missing my point just so you can feel good about not putting forth any effort to express yourself.

No one is a master of art immediately but that doesn’t mean caving and just using AI. Learn a skill, enjoy the process of learning, and find joy in sharing your progress, and potentially make money, yes. You’re mad I’m calling out laziness, and that’s okay.
December 6, 2024 at 2:24 PM
It isn’t mean of me to say that’s immoral when it is. You want your art RIGHT NOW and it has to be good. That’s gonna cost you either money, or your own effort. You don’t want to put in either one, it sounds like.

Machines streamline industrial production and free up time for humans to pursue their creativity. Yes I do think all art should be made by humans, and I think for their effort and skill they should be compensated fairly. If you don’t want to pay an artist become one yourself and make your own stuff.
December 6, 2024 at 2:24 PM
That’s exactly what’s happening when people choose to use AI replace making their own art or buying from an artist, though. I’m not disparaging AI as a whole, either, I said it has its applications, but not in human creativity. Just say you’re lazy.

This isn’t about being owed customers, it’s about being valued as a legitimate merchant, and yes that’s competitive, and yes prices vary.

You still are arguing that you don’t want to pay human artists what they’re worth.

People are finally willing to speak about it now that CEOs have been proved to be human like the rest of us. Run your business like a demon of greed and find out 🤷‍♀️
