“Professor Tolkien, welcome to the War on Cars.” 😉 Seriously, he abhorred the car’s affect on society along with sprawl. Although the idea would be lost on him that dense cities make the countryside possible, he loved proximity, walkability and riding his bike. Village life.

A friend of mine will insist to her last breath that Tolkien was pro-feminist (unbeknownst to himself). I think he’d sympathize with much of New Urbanism these days. Although the idea that dense cities make countryside possible would be lost on him. He loved proximity & walkability. Village life.
