Currently if there are no trees that are sufficent as hiding spots he just stands there, that will be changed soonish. In one way or another you will be able to get Bigfoot Fur that can be crafted into a chest piece allowing you to walk through leaves (not yet implemented on the BigMan)

When the player gets too close Bigfoot will find a tree to hide behind. If the player decides to persue it, the foot will try to find another tree that is further away from the player. To avoid the skittish behaviour a player can hide himself in a 3x3 leaf pillar which will make you basically unseen
