Shift the grid of cuts by one and you could remove the middle 2x2. Only, it would leave a border of fixed squares, and tile grid would be reduced to 3x3 :/

Worse than derivative art, there's a risk of value lock-in: if we succeed in encoding present values into AI (whatever that would mean), then AI might come to enforce them. We might be stuck with our current values forever, losing the ability to morally grow.
