@bsbibotany.bsky.social I’ve found a nice cluster of what I think are Whitebeam near Mamble, Worcestershire. There’s around five trees in hedgerows scattered along the A456. Their distinctive autumn colours really shine.

Really thought provoking, I’m currently dipping into this as my book at bedtime, happy in the knowledge that they are still out there singing their songs.

Whenever I come across white sweet violets I always think of these lines

The shell of a little snail bleached
In the grass; chip of flint, and mite
Of chalk; and the small birds' dung
In splashes of purest white:

From, Edward Thomas, But these things also.

I have two of these lamps for the bedside. They are just lovely, about the size of a dipper. 3 colour temperatures, rechargeable, diffuser, what more could you want.

There’s not many bird I’d books that focus on id by sound. Identifying Migratory Birds by Sound in Britain and Europe by Stanislas Wroza (Helm, 2024) is a gem of a book, it’s packed with sonograms and QR code links to an amazing 450 species.

A beautiful morning to be out and about sound recording. The targeted species Song Thrush didn’t show up with only sporadic bursts of tuning up heard.I did however grab several minutes of calls from a pair of Teal. 👌
