Just arrived! Next book in line by our @rad-institute.bsky.social fellows for me to read: Katy Simpson Smith's Weeds! She picked this one for me after I asked her with which of her books to start, Really looking forward to this one!

After walking for 2 1/2 hours, Duch is pissy with me. Not enough outside for madame. How dare I want to eat.

I'm sorry that some sexy guys you totally have heard of with an opinion published at the New York Times have to simp for a fantasy world of the past in which no one ever wanted to retire because work was so awesome. It was WOMEN WHO RUINED IT. WOMEN. *strokes beard thusly*

I had declined talks, invited papers, most review requests for a year now. This Sunday I woke up not being hunted down by yet another deadline springing up on me in an ongoing 80hour work-week marathon. And I finally got down to give myself time to THINK through an idea in a depth almost forgotten.

I wish Musk would READ. Here is what Tolkien himself said about drawing manipulative analogies from his work.

Next in line is Haack!
(I quit Strevens - life's too short while endless better books await.)
October 29, 2025 at 1:13 AM
Finally having a chance to read Streven's "The Knowledge Machine". My goodness, this book is BAD: wrong, underinformed, and quite frankly too pompously written. I just can't. I may not make it to the end.

I noticed post-tenure that my emails have shortened dramatically.

That said, I receive far too many ChatGPT-ed email requests that read like being sent out to 50 other people and composed with as much thought as putting a toilet lid down.

Real emails get a real response from me, still.

People like that boggle the mind. Especially in higher Ed. Why even live a life. Instead: Have AI tell you what food smells like, how touch feels, and enjoy not being involved in doing anything at all yourself... then wonder why the F you need therapy because you feel empty, as if nothing matters.

Dog's been having giardia on and off this month. Woke up to her having explosive diarrhea in the middle of the night again.

That *smell* will haunt me forever.
