'You never saw so many phonies in all your life'
Cinema/history/books.
Dundela Loyal.
Belfast.
This was very good. A humanly written story about the 'absurd diorama' that is supporting a football team. Life, death and last minute goals.

Found this little fellow in the National Gallery in Edinburgh the other day. The pathos would bring a tear to a glass eye. 1856, since you're asking.

The Scott Memorial always makes me feel that poor Sir Walter has been put in some kind of ornate prison. Free Walter.

Saw the brilliant 'Northern Lights' @queensfilmtheatre.bsky.social on Saturday as part of the @cineredis.bsky.social tour. A wonderful film, a sort of snowy 'Days Of Heaven', about the founding of the Nonpartisan League in 1916 North Dakota. Remembering is a radical act.

A really interesting, often moving set of essays on film and cinema published by Paper Visual Art - captured the deeply personal connection that we have with film, with some very raw memory wrapped up in screens and circumstances.

Another year with the rip roaring Duns. Green, white and dynamite

A pleasure to interview Terry George and Jim Sheridan after a matinee of the moving and thought provoking revival of Terry's 'The Tunnel'. It's always refreshing to see art about the Troubles from the time itself. Go see it if you can. Produced by Brassneck at the Lyric, go see it if you can.

Got to spend some time at the wonderful @cineredis.bsky.social in lovely old Bristol, bathing in the waters of cinema history. Such a brilliant festival in a brilliant venue. I'm remotely introducing Neil Jordan's 'Angel' on Saturday evening if you're down that way. Long live cinema.

Reminds me of Charles Hawtrey, clutching 40 fags.

Caught the last screening of 'Wind, Tide and Oar' last night
QFT last night - a gorgeous story of engineless boat folk - thumbing their noses at James Watt's infernal device and sailing as nature intended. Made me want to throw it all up and live only in the wind and the tide.

Went to old Dublin town to watch Bridge Over the River Kwai on 35mm as part of the brilliant IFI David Lean season. Such a fantastic version of the madness of war in such glorious analogue colour.

Second American Pope of course.

Thinking of this legend tonight, as I'm old enough to remember him scoring against PSG in a European cup semi final.

Read this wonderful book about a village team winning the FA Cup in the weird England of the 1970s. Whimsical, but with a dark and elegiac undertow. One of the great names of literature as well - Monkey Tonks.

Rest easy Val Kilmer - Top Secret an VHS favourite of all my mates at school. Unspeakably handsome and really quite funny.

St Patrick here, thinking about the 'Craic Pack'.

I'll be talking to Dr Ian Miller from Ulster University about his fascinating book, A History of Ireland in Ten Body Parts. From Clonycavan Man (and his hair gel) to our last common exit. Sunday, 2.30pm at the Ulster Museum for @niscifest.bsky.social
