Sounds suspiciously like land value tax :)

We’re fully into “first time grand strategy player” territory now it seems. Tax on grain next :)

I don’t think he, or the PLP would want it, despite his popularity. GMCA mayor is the perfect fit for him, plenty of presence and power, which would evaporate if he went for leadership. As mayor he can actually DO things, which a GM MP can’t. Why would you give that up to gamble on PM?

My understanding was that it prepares people for senior civil service roles, that are high-pressure and very specialist in their own way - requiring leadership, rapid assessment of policy and the implications and managing both up and down.

Oof, that one chart was a bit hard to read - focusing on Sheff makes it a bit clearer

Big thanks to the met office for their historical weather station data, and to the wonderful people at places like Weston Park museum in Sheffield who keep on uploading it!

You can do something similar for rainfall. Every line on the chart is the cumulative rainfall for a previous year, with the heavy blue line the to-date cumulative for 2025. It's not that any single month has been especially dry - it's just a sequence of dry months, combined with hot weather.

...so anywhere where the red line goes outside of the ribbon, you're into "unusual" territory. Unusual in quotation marks because it's getting more and more usual. Zooming in on Sheffield shows that 5 of the past 7 months are substantially warmer than average.

Are you waying up your options?

As a rational individual: yes, good points, well made.
As a Sheffielder: we will NEVER BEND THE KNEE TO LEEDS
