There is some kind of psychological mechanism that brings us to care about numbers; I suspect that this reflects something important about the structure of the universe and our place in it. Ancient Pythagoreans were onto something.

Keith Gifften has passed away. Among other wonderful comics, he created the short-lived The Heckler series for DC comics.

The best villain of that series was John Doe, the Generic Man. Everything the Generic Man touched turned to a generic version of itself.
