My radio doesn't have enough physical controls so I took advantage of the steering wheel control input. This shit ain't well documented but it ended up being pretty simple! Prototype done, PCB designs next.

The thing that makes J1850 VPW complicated is how the bus encodes 1s and 0s. The bus can either be 'passive' (~0 volts, pulled down to ground) or 'active' (driven by a node to ~8V) and a node transmits data by alternating between passive and active, with the pulse widths determining 1 or 0

Working on a little J1850 VPW transceiver board for a microcontroller project. Probably going to use a Pi Pico or Pico 2, I was hoping to use the PIOs for handling the low-level protocol stuff but receiving VPW to the specification is a little more complicated than the PIOs can manage.
