He wakes to voyeurs. There are so many men. He peels their names off the back of his tongue. Crescent moon marks in the skin of his back, deep bites that leave their lilac. He shrugs off his coat, offers his mouth to the one watching.

From the yawn of the bed she told him how she hated the word devour due to the long vowel sound which sounded a purse disapproval. I'll bin it, then, he said. And so she became gobbling, gorging, gulping, insatiable, wolfish, ravenous, gormandizing, unquenchable.

The tote bag was unorthodox. Things she carried in it: petty habits, a hypothesis about the infidelity of men, anya potatoes, a paperback about the blues, one heart: perforated, the beguiling patterns of his mouth down her back, dropped apples, a tease club in the city.
