I don't mind randomization, I actually play a lot of card games. I like Balatro bc the randomization leads to creativity. In StS, the randomization leads to running into walls. No matter what you try to build, there's a chance you just get locked out of it by luck and have to start over.

People that reliably beat A20 are lucky. Skill is part of it, but the majority of people could never reliably beat A20 no matter how skilled they are. You could put 1,000 hours into the game, understand the systems perfectly, and still not win A20 consistently unless you're also lucky.

You start doing this early on, then never see a poison card or relic after act 1. What do you do?

I go for Watcher's main build every time and still can't get past A2, yet sailed my way to A10 with Defect, so I don't think it's fair to give Watcher that much credit.

The problem is you can't "choose" a build. You could start building poison and then never get a single good poison card after Act 1. You could try pivoting, but since you have no way of knowing when or if you'll ever get the cards and relics you need, that could fuck you up more. It's just luck.
