I would still recommend for some game jam or any quick prototype you want to make, since things are done way quicker in godot, I feel like I'm speedrunning game dev lmao

Have you taken a look at Godot?

Don't want to make your change the game engine all of sudden, but Godot seems a perfect match from what you described.

GDScript is very similar to python and the engine itself is less than 100mb. Everything is quick and light.
