Hi! I'm an erotic size writer! Check out my stuff at deviantart.com/smallerluketheory!
It's so weird because the first scene with him honestly does have some teeth to it, it's not ultra scathing or anything but it's more than I'd expect

And then every subsequent scene with him is just haha jk he's a lovable goof

If Time Burton could direct this movie from his ed wood era maybe we'd have something

Hell I'd settle for his big fish era

And i don't really trust any creative project helmed by Tim Burton to do it right

There are ways to thread this needle. Ways that growing big could be in part about her seizing control of her own sexuality, and you can go lots of different ways with that. It's not an unsolvable problem but it is a tricky one

The protagonist grows too big and powerful to be controlled and objectified by the men in her life... but not too big to be controlled and objectified by the men making and watching the movie

But so, you have a story that wants to be kind of thematically feminist on one hand and wants to shamelessly ogle a woman on the other.

Like I'm not even saying that as a horny size brained idiot, both films are very clearly dripping with the idea that there's something kinky about a woman growing huge, though it's obviously a lot more subtextual in the original (less subtextual in the poster though! See previous point!)

But at the same time, both movies are very much about "look at this sexy giant lady stomping around in a shredded dress." Or at least the promise of it; there's a reason the most iconic image from the original is the poster and not any shots from the movie, cuz the movie barely has any of that

Cuz on one hand it's about like, this woman oppressed by patriarchy becomes so big that men can't control her anymore. The original plays this for (bad, boring) horror, the 90s version plays it for laughs

I was excited for this when Gillian Flynn was writing it, feel like she is the right kinda writer for this sorta movie

And then the following announcement was that time Burton was directing and I was like. Oh.

*pulls up my first story to check how long it took me to get the growing woman to 6 feet, sees that the answer is over 32,000 words* y-yeah, ha, 5,000, that's a real slow pace........
