In a nutshell, data centers are coming to Finland because electricity is very cheap, and the current (corporately conservative) administration is giving them tax-free energy. The energy costs are being pasted off on actual tax payers, and data center consumption is maxing out the grid.

I think it was called The Green Curtain, which was designed to halt the spread of the USSR (Red Curtain) into the middle east by giving military weapons and training to violent, radical ¡slamists. There's a newspaper article from the 1980's, iirc, about these "freedom fighters".

Well, if AI actually worked and created profit, and that wealth was distributed accordingly, we could have universal basic income.
But there just is not enough energy nor enough computing power, and even if there was, it would need more users to buy-in instead of paying for food or rent.

Tech execs know AI is a debt machine and are desperate to get people to start using and keep using AI. They bet on mass adoption and got a sunk cost fallacy.

I'm in Gdansk, Poland, this week, and I think it takes the cake for Silent Hill-ass-looking towns. The marine layer coming off the Baltic is so thick everything is dripping wet with cold condensation. At night you can even see the moisture fulminating in the air as it blows past the street lamps.
