i think one underrated issue is how wildly incurious our political opponents are. they can't be arsed to learn basic fact about reality.

These kinds of takes made me batty. We can have a conversation about how well governments have or have not dealt with Covid-19 without giving into colossal scale doomerism. It just undermines your overall argument.
Under current conditions of deliberate negligence and unrestrained contagion, the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 will never abate. Unless necessary measures of public safety are enforced, the pandemic will continue until the last human being suffers a final, fatal infection.
