Music artists need to stop using X and start posting on @bsky.app How can anybody continue on that platform? The salutes not enough? Spreading misinformation? Enabling right-wing populist politicians?

What will it take? Lose a bit of clout but sleep better.

Unfortunately, I was late arriving due so I was greeted with second song Sacrifice on entry to the venue. The crowd at the front are obviously already in raptures, singing along word for word and throwing some great shapes. The main set is a recreation of their excellent debut album from start to finish. Performance wise they are as always flawless, but there’s a little something lacking. Volume. Being a band with drums on backing tracks makes it possible to keep volumes down. But unfortunately, if you didn’t want to elbow your way through to the front (which would just be damn rude, when you’ve overslept) then people’s conversations could be clearly heard over the band. I tried filming a song from towards the back and I suspect the footage contains discussions from the merch stand as much as music. However, the volume aside, it’s another glorious performance. It’s good to see them perform a headline set as I’d never managed that before. Hearing the album in its entirety was nice and it worked well in a live setting that way. Gaia was another high point in the set, with its dark pop vibes. Lots of arms in the air (more put your hands up for Whitby, than Detroit obviously). Miracle soars beautifully after its delicate verse has soothed you. There’s an arena-rock band at play behind the face paint. The rest of the set is a mixture of songs from across their back catalogue of EPs. Satellite, another big tune with soaring vocal melodies, is thankfully included. It’s also nice to hear Call of the Void provide a beautifully expansive slice of widescreen melancholy. The Angel Cries is stunning, a song that is simple and yet so emotive. By the time they close with Sacred Song, it must be said that they are building something special. So many smiley faces, which was difficult to observe in the 80s heyday of Goth. Change is good though.

Start & End paragraph n0trixx fled Russia after protesting against the regime and its attack on Ukraine. She lives with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and along with the other Neurodivergent Crew (NDC) members, she is admirably frank and open about her struggles. After originally fleeing to Turkey, she now lives in England near her NDC friends. She is signed to UMG subsidiary PHARMA and her cathartic music might be what many need in today’s world. n0trixx’s set is brief but electrifying. Merging Eastern European and Turkish influences with trap, nu-metal and industrial vibes, results in something strikingly original. Her eastern-influenced vocal melodies stand out, and her rapid-fire rhymes rival top rappers, making this a storming set. Start & End paragraph Somebody comes out to the beer garden and shouts “FMA + 12 Gage in 2 minutes.” An underestimation as 45 seconds later I’m in the venue and they’ve already started The Machine. Which is a BIG fucking tune. The father and son duo immediately start spitting lyrics at a rapid pace. FMA paces the stage like a caged polar bear, while 12 Gage seems slightly calmer, though he’s hardly static. You can hear FMA hitting his chest over the sound of the PA, as he delivers his lines. Few acts fully commit to every word of a set. Despite my fluctuating love for rap, these guys remind me of my first encounters with Public Enemy, Consolidated, and B. Dolan. The final song is Finito, whose music is house flavoured with some of the bass skullduggery of dubstep. It provides a high tempo, high energy finale to what’s been a stonking set that made me tired just watching. Start & End paragraph Dreadnought’s set celebrated his debut album, Fatal Flaw. His music fuses industrial beats, metal, and trap with rapid-fire raps and indignant fury. It’s dark, horror-laden, musical violence and it perfectly caps off the vibe of this five-band bill. After a brief Madonna-assisted introduction, Dreadnought immediately gives you a pummelling with Gambit, a malicious industrial metal assault. It’s a furious start, and Dreadnought exudes great stage presence, immediately engaging the crowd. The subsequent Sharkbait is another face-melting sensory assault, like an unholy alliance between American Headcharge and Ministry. There’s one last song as the other NDC members come on stage to perform D.A.A.Dy. It’s a fitting end to the set, having all the NDC together on stage. It’s obvious just how much these guys support and inspire each other. And in a fractured and fucked-up world we all need people who have got our backs. A great end to a highly entertaining set.
