Light-filled abstract landscapes from countless hand painted circles in Brooklyn, NY. Occasional gold-leaf and posts about art-making, art-seeing, sometimes gardening
So in this case that little study ended up taking a lot longer. Partly because the number of decisions involved is really about the same. Partly because the little painting was being used as a pathfinder for the larger painting- especially helpful when there's gold leaf involved.

Here's the full sized painting, simply titled "Invocation" and a snapshot showing the incomplete "study" hanging on the wall to the left of it. That's a sorta working drawing higher on the wall- a scribbled-on printout

This painting is titled "Study for Invocation"- it's a smaller painting at 19 by 13 inches. The title includes "study" because there's a larger version of the composition. Which of the two do you think was faster to paint?

One of my “Illuminate” postcard prints made it to Antarctica where it spent a few months of wintry summer with friend Caz, who was driving big machines around in the snow. More great photos over on FB at Caz R Applegate. So fun sending these palm sized images across time and space.

Lucky to catch the Giorgio Morandi exhibit at Galleria Mattia De Luca in NY on one of its last days (thru 11/26). This photo is of Morandi's final painting, from 1964.

Something blue. This is "Held" - it's acrylic dispersion and iridescence on polymer canvas and 12 x 19 inches
