I will point out that FF8 specifically didn't do the arrow thing and it has SO MANY quests that you, yes you, likely missed out on because it was only available during a limited window of the story and almost none of it was signposted and some involved barely-visible ladders or similar things

I was in my early 30s when I finally looked up what avant-garde means and I wish I'd done so sooner because it puts a lot of creative works in better perspective
