Since Shota declined a PO, do the Cubs recoup some of that? Or could that initial reporting have been off, and CHC only paid posting fees for the first $23M (2024-25 salaries) at that time?

@jon-becker.com with the dust settled on the Shota decisions, do we know what CHC ultimately paid for posting fee? I saw reporting 2 years ago that the Cubs paid a posting fee based on the $53M guarantee, which tracks with the MLB article linked in the post above.

Not too surprised by any of the accepted QO. With next season in potential jeopardy, why settle for a ~2 year deal with a lower AAV? If it could turn into a one year deal with a work stoppage

Initial reporting last January indicated the Cubs paid a ~$10M posting fee for Shota. I believe this would’ve covered the $53M guarantee he received. So do the Cubs get part of that back now? Or would the new posting fee only have been 15% of $27M in new money?

I was under the impression that 2025 was Alcantara’s final option year. Is that not the case?

Agree with your hypotheses - also seems like they have no plans of playing either guy, and don’t want the same guy sitting for a full month. Also they likely want both to be rookie eligible next year

Does his ascension leave no room for Tyson? I was thinking an option was plausible but after being used 3 times this week & delivering, with Pressly falling off, I’m not as sure…

I wonder where Schwarber and Hendricks end up after this season! I also really hope Hendricks isn’t traded at TDL to a potential NL Playoff opponent..

RE: your commentary on the pretty-good AAA pitching that Bally is destroying. Look who was at AAA for Cubs in April. Horton, Wicks, Flexen, Palencia, Roberts, Little, Thompson, Cosgrove/Hollowell… not exactly an MLB staff but not too shabby

Interesting that we’re up to 3 lefties in the pen now - wonder how much of that is due to the Steele injury, opt out clauses, upcoming schedule… or just pure randomness. (Not that 3 is a ton, but way more than the 1 to start the year)

At this moment in time, is Noland a good bet to be added to the 40 man by year’s end? Based on this post, he seems like a solid option (no pun intended) for optionable pitching depth for the next few years

Was already over the Turner experiment, and when Busch didn’t get the AB against a RHP RP… I just don’t even know. I don’t get why Busch would need a full day off when Turner is always playing over him v LHP, so why not PH him there
