November 4, 2024 at 10:31 PM
polishing up jesse! we need to slay! and hoping to be done with everything (except music) soon!! so far the game offers five outfit options, but even after the due date i’m planning on updating it with new outfits over time :) #SmallGameStudio

another one of my favorite upcoming outfits for the upcoming walter white dress up game,,,,, i was initially very intimidated by the idea of drawing a bunch of funny outfits, but i think i underestimated myself. #SmallGameStudio

right now, the bulk of my work for the final project is drawing various walter white outfits, which i really cannot complain about. been thinking a lot about how much fun it would be to just design the visuals of a video game and not worry about the coding #SmallGameStudio

strep still quite literally has me by the throat but nonetheless we persist!! currently working on my walter white base for my upcoming walter white dress up game, and here's what i have so far. next is the outfits!! i'm scared. #SmallGameStudio

currently sicker than a victorian child who just tasted their first baja blast, but got slide deck for the #SmallGameStudio final project done!!! here's a couple screenshots from the very basic proof of concept/gameplay gif made with very basic code.

project 3 released!! was a bit constrained by the project parameters, so i decided to make another, more fun version. check out it's a metaphor or it's a metaphor (meme edition) on my itchio (slmcleoducdavis.itch.io) #SmallGameStudio

my current ideas for our final project for #SmallGameStudio!! very much torn between something deep and personal vs. something absolutely ridiculous. the lizard one was inspired by my roommate and her lizard-- who will only go poop if it's on you.

currently still working on project 3!! the difference between the scene and game tabs will always be a little mind-boggling and trippy to me. first image is the scene view, and the second is the game view. looking forward to finishing this little project!! #SmallGameStudio

finished pecha kucha presentation on elizabeth lapensee, an indigenous game designer, writer, and artist!! i was only able to play her itch.io games at elizabethlapensee.itch.io but her narratives surrounding indigenous experiences/issues are beautifully presented #SmallGameStudio

for arcade 3 i played technology artist!!! i love the sheer amount of possibilities you can make, and it was fascinating figuring out what each key did and how the developer managed to make this!! the k key was probably my favorite :) #SmallGameStudio

(2/2) this is the cross stitch i'm currently working on right now-- it's one of the biggest i've ever made, and the creation process has made me think about using pixel art in project 3, to maintain the arcade feel but to add a bit of visual complexity and detail :) #SmallGameStudio

one of my favorite hobbies that i recently picked up is cross stitching (these are some of my recent ones), which i realized is fundamentally the same as pixel art. i like how this older art form translates perfectly into this newer, technologically-based art form (1/2) #SmallGameStudio

One of my fav games from last week was "Naiad" by @slmcleod.bsky.social. This game does a lot with fairly uncomplicated art, text, and code. It's successful at artfully juggling the broad concept of death with a character we don't know whether to trust or be wary of. #SmallGameStudio

naiad(project 2) is now out!!! talk to a spooky lady and maybe learn something about yourself. making this game certainly took a couple hundred of my brain cells but it feels great to have finished it. play at: slmcleoducdavis.itch.io/naiad #SmallGameStudio

all the naiad expressions i've painted on Procreate for project 2!!! the inspiration and creation process was long, but she turned out exactly how i wanted. the variations (aside from the smile) are meant to be very subtle #SmallGameStudio

code for project 2 is almost done!! this is how much i have so far-- around 342 lines in total. spent pretty much the entire weekend wrestling with it, had some big headaches, but i've completed pretty much everything i set out to do #SmallGameStudio

my favorite game from arcade 2!! didn't get too much time to play, but loved the snappy, quirky vibes, art style, and music. my favorite part was when you were coerced into literally singing a song (backing provided). a lot of fun!! #SmallGameStudio

did a grouped activity in class today where we tested out some game structures from the readings-- i was a little disappointed when i go the choose your own adventure group (really wanted the conditionals and syllogisms or automatic writing) but this is what i got!! #SmallGameStudio
April 25, 2024 at 6:39 PM
learned about variables and conditionals in C# in class today!! learning how to make a coin flipper is a lot more complicated than i would have expected, so i'm a little scared for when it gets more complex. helps a lot to have some prior knowledge of Processing #SmallGameStudio

published project 1 (purgatory) on itch.io at slmcleoducdavis.itch.io/purgatory !!! i'm only now realizing that my itch games have a running theme. uploading a unity project was a much more complicated process than my other games, but i'm glad i know how to now!! #SmallGameStudio

had a problem where my trees were turning a lovely hot pink when i zoomed out far enough-- fixed it by individually setting the material of each section of the mesh instead of the whole thing. not sure why it worked, but it did!! #SmallGameStudio

played 232henley by notapipe during arcade in class. really loved how every dimension of every object was hand-drawn with a childish composition, giving the impression of a fading memory— especially when the screen started to distort #SmallGameStudio

been trying to find an asset for a static human figure, but i'm having trouble finding specifically what i want. so far i've been trying to work with UMA, but it's tricky-- anyone let me know if you've found any similar assets!!! #SmallGameStudio

this is the in-game view of project 0-- pretty simple, but i'm excited knowing that i can make something like this already. unity is a really cool engine, so far parts of it remind me of Procreate or DesignDoll, which is pretty much the only other 3D software i've used #SmallGameStudio
