I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of AI pitches genuinely start with "don't you want a real-life Cortana/Jarvis/(insert other extremely popular fictional AI)?" and the assumption becomes that the AI will be capable of just figuring it all out by itself, basically.

I can't lie, as someone who plays GW2 less now that the other two are starting to shape up, that's worse than I thought😭 it's still nice they're even adding it though, for sure. Not having any kind of template was probably my one major gripe with GW fashion (outside of medium armor designs.)

I assumed those came out with the latest expac (which I haven't played yet despite preordering) but I've always hated the transmutation charges, ngl.

Oh for sure, all three are VERY consumed by tech debt (GW2 is the youngest and is 13 years old) so it's interesting watching the devs have to navigate all of that so many years later and what they prioritize. GW2 only just got a matchmaking system for raids, off the top of my head.

Also WoW still has no dye system somehow, which never fails to baffle me every time I come back to the game. In 2025 you still just have to hope there's a recolor you like and that it's still obtainable.

Like don't get me wrong, account wide collection + more glam plate slots would be THE be-all and end-all of QOL updates for a lot of people. But this is already a much larger step in that direction than a lot of people thought they'd make, and the devs want to address the plate limit too.

Honestly, this is the kind of update that puts XIV ahead of what I see as its main competitors (WoW and GW2) by my preference, simply because in XIV most players will only have one character (no account collection needed for most) and the other two still restrict transmog based on gear type/weight.

-shining a big ol' spotlight on how the series can simultaneously improve in some areas while staying stagnant or actively devolving in other ways. In 2025, multi-billion dollar companies should not feel so comfortable making these kinds of quality tradeoffs in their flagship products ATEOTD.

Yeah I've seen and heard, from complete internet strangers and friends alike, that ZA actually does quite a few normal gameplay things "right". My hunch is that it makes the lack of effort in other places stand out more, basically-

The last Fifa (game) controversy that I can bother to remember was seven years ago.

I can't remember the last time CoD had a genuine controversy.

Both of those series are absolutely dwarfed in popularity & profits by Pokemon, so people are gonna be more interested in that, generally.
October 16, 2025 at 7:23 PM
I get what they're saying but (as has been mentioned by several people in this convo) when Pokemon makes the Most Money Of Anything Ever In The World we're kinda talking about different levels of popularity/relevance here as far as effects on the games industry, I feel like.

Full disclosure that I never touched Digimon even as a child so I DGAF about it but that objectively looks SO good. It's colorful, whimsical, it looks alive and interesting. Amazing what can happen when you have middling graphics but actually put effort into art direction.
October 16, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Bland, sparse, featureless Play-Doh fields... painfully low-res cardboard cities... the "I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less" meme was NOT asking for this. Even a crumb of meaningful art direction would help heaps but people will buy it anyway.

Ultimate subathon goal should've been having Pat watch all of the Ascension cutscenes.

Check any of the posts about the subathon and take a look at the goals

It's painfully French and for once that's a good thing I think

I vividly remember first seeing it get announced and going "okay, seems.... interesting, I guess" and never would've imagined it would EASILY be my GOTY.

They do give you a compass, it's in the overlay that pops up when you press Y.

For me, it's because everything but the faces are weirdly detailed and that kind of contrast just isn't appealing to me.

Getting Endwalker a month after my paternal grandma died and Dawntrail half a year after both of my maternal grandparents died, XIV just has great timing, huh

It pains me how close Warframe almost comes to being that, but it doesn't feel nearly as good to me, so it just never sticks.

It's the reason I occasionally reinstall D2 and just run around doing stuff before uninstalling again. There's no replicating that gunplay unfortunately, and if there were a similar online FPS game like it, but run by competent people, I'd be on it in a heartbeat.
