Because if I'm going to utilize my position of privilege as a cishet white male to empower others, I have to pace myself and try to find those little sparks of creativity and joy where I can.

It should serve to keep me INFORMED, but not at the expense of my ability to LIVE and FUNCTION and FIND *SOME* HAPPINESS in the face of the multitude of horrors that we're likely to face over the next 4+ years.

If I'm going to make checking social media a habitual thing - and really I should be reading a book or some shit but whatever. Baby steps - then that media shouldn't become a consistent source of anxiety and despair for me.

Compassion fatigue is a very real thing, and if you spend all your energy worrying and ruminating, you go crazy. I came here, from Twitter, because it's a manifestation of that statement.

I'm guilty of this as much as the next person. The last few days I have sunk into a deep, dark place where there is little light, stunted love, and no creativity, which also means NO REST. If we're going to fight whatever comes next and survive it, we HAVE to pace ourselves.

I...Don't do well, in the echo box, if you get my meaning. I understand the social-emotional need to vent - in fact I'm VERY good at it! At a certain point though, lamenting a situation, and giving in to despair and exhaustion, is counterproductive.

Like I'm not knocking Twitter any more than I'd knock Tumblr. Either I've been extraordinarily lucky in my curating of my feeds, or I just don't delve deep enough to see the horrid shit, but that's not what drew me HERE from THERE.
