The Friend (2025) seems to have come and gone largely unnoticed and that's a shame because it deserves better. It's a touching, elegiac, meditative film about loss and healing with a marvelous performance by Naomi Watts and a beautiful Great Dane 💙

Spent the week cancelling Amazon subscriptions and moving purchases to Target and Etsy. Removed Facebook and Instagram. I know I am less than a drop in the bucket but as I have always told my children, don’t spend your money in a way that benefits people who are maleficent toward others.

“Can I Get There By Candlelight?” -a story I loved as a child, about a girl whose family moved to an old farmhouse with carriage house, where she kept her pony, Candlelight. She would ride her pony out a gate behind the carriage house and down a path like this and emerge in a village in the 1700’s.
