GW gives # of chips and makes it easy to estimate the operating cost of the data center to *use* those chips. You have to which chips and know the power rating of each chip. So no toaster ovens allowed

It is a strange metric but it is helpful. The recent openAI/AMD "revenue for stock" swap was reported as 1GWatts in the WSJ but the press release says 1GW of a "specific" and yet to be released chip (mi450). Assuming each chip rates at 1KW, that would make it 1M chips.

How do you reconcile the two different points of view? Have spirit consumers proportion of spend increased to compensate since the base is shrinking?
