Bruenig is right that Savage examined a rarefied segment of the U.S. labor market. And even though the essay is full of shocking numbers, they are almost certainly the result of some degree of cherry-picking. And of course it’s true that for most of American history, men who were deemed white tended to be afforded privileges and opportunities not available to others. But over the past two decades I have seen firsthand the dynamics that Savage describes. The gatekeeping apparatus that he identifies is real, but it often serves a specific subset of marginalized groups. Gender and race were not the only characteristics that determined who captured the cultural and economic windfall that wokeness wrought. Ideology played an outsize role too.

if you don't play or follow golf (or just don't get why so many people love it) this probably isn't on your radar but it should be understood as both a naked land grab and an attack on a part of DC's black history

In 2020, the National Links Trust began a 50-year lease of DCS courses to manage and oversee rehabilitation projects that will guarantee a bright future for public golf. However, the Department of the Interior has taken steps to terminate this lease. If successful, the move would derail plans already underway and could undermine our promise to keep DC municipal golf affordable and accessible for all. Elder invested in improving the course, and added a driving range to make the facility more popular. In San Francisco, we even have "parallel" Democrats—self-described Democrats who hate progressives/the left but have nary a bad word to say about Trump. The press buys this hook, line, and sinker—thus making an extreme faction seem like the "center."

(There's no "center" in politics)

political media on all sides is defined by disdain for its audience. “liberal” media believes that its audience is too insular and must be confronted with opposing views. conservative media just feeds its audience propaganda slop.
