Tried (and failed) to get some fundamental customer support from #amazon today via chat.

I was chatting with one rep who suddenly dropped, and was immediately replaced by another.

That’s it, that’s the whole story.

Putting aside debates about macroeconomics for a moment

In a way, everything you need to know about why tariffs and why not is right here in this trading chart from this afternoon.

It also made me vengeful; still working on legal action against the roofer (Cory Nichols, “Roofing Experts of New York” 🤡 shown here)

There are other people who are responsible, in long-arc ways, for the fires in LA, and I hope someday some folks carry legal weight to address that too.

We lost our home and the majority of everything I cared about six years ago (because of a roofer who was an idiot, who’s been ducking legal efforts for recovery since years.)

Doesn’t make me an expert on the subject, but I have some thoughts if they are helpful to anyone who just experienced this.

Trying to imagine the meeting at Goldman Sachs where they reviewed this as the cover for the “Goldman Sachs Wealth Management Outlook” and said, yeah, perfect, hit send

Meta’s introduction of AI creators is misguided and dystopian in a way that makes you wonder if anyone there has talked to humans recently.

That said, the idea that AI will displace *social media influencers* was not on my 2025 bingo card but

And it’s a huge bummer to be old enough to remember how that went down, and also old enough to know that this memory doesn’t mean anything, in the dynamics of American elections.

Memory plays no role in American politics. It’s the professional purview of museum curators alone. So here we are.

So it’s 2024, and that particular solar infrastructure is indeed: a museum piece.

Here is it’s data from the Smithsonian:

And I’m old enough to remember when Reagan had them removed in 1986. Of course he did.

It wasn’t deciding not to go that way: it was deliberately putting it all into reverse.

I didn’t ask why, because we all knew why. It was the same year he dropped the top tax bracket from 50% to 28%.

Jimmy Carter, back to the stars. A good day to be off twitter.

I was a kid when he installed these solar panels on top of the White House in 1979.

I remember looking at the announcement with my dad in the NYT. It was amazing.

next time you’re struggling with the things you have to do, as opposed to the things you care about, know that the Medicis needed someone to spec out a *fortification system* and turned to Michaelangelo Fucking Buonarotti like I know you’re busy with the Last Judgement but maybe over the weekend?

If you wonder why this matters to the rest of the world, or who could support such positions honestly or with enthusiasm, stop wondering.

Beatrix von Storch, senior AfD member, on X: “The Soros plan to flood Europe with migrants has been exposed. No one can stop us from resisting it.”

Wolfgang Gedeon, AfD Baden-Württemberg, calls Holocaust survivors “instruments of the political class” and promoted conspiracy theories about Jewish influence on global politics. Claims that “the Rothschilds” and “global Zionism” manipulate international politics and finance.

Björn Höcke, prominent AfD politician, denigrates the Holocaust memorial in Berlin: “We Germans, our people, are the only people in the world who have planted a monument of shame in the heart of their capital.” He also condemned “globalist elites” (dogwhistle) as the enemy of “true Germans.”
December 21, 2024 at 10:24 AM
Alexander Gauland, co-founder of the AfD: “Hitler and the Nazis are just a speck of bird poop in over 1,000 years of successful German history.”

They are explicitly aligned with the Reichsbürger, who refuse to pay taxes, recognize German laws, or comply with court orders. In 2022, German authorities arrested 25 Reichsbürger folks for plotting to overthrow the government and install a “Prince” as the head of a new state.

There’s no strong reason for non-German nationals to have been closely following the rise of the AfD (Alternativ fuer Deutschland) party in Germany, so here are some details to get you up to speed:
