I absolutely love pomegranate symbolism and metaphors.
ocean lapping at my feet moon in the sky I chuck my peeled apart pomegranate into the lulling waves a perfect convergence just as scientists say the big bang, created in a single instant an simple act of everything coming together; the perfect circumstance I gave them everything but they never wanted it; they always hated the mess I made to give them the sweetest fruits though I know my offering of devotion was not accepted elsewhere Aphrodite always steps forth welcoming my offerings with open palms turning Her eyes to my bloody hands and finding She doesn't mind the mess waves gently sloshing up my bare ankles as I step into Her embrace She has always welcomed my gifts. bluesky-@slasherparty instagram-@slasher.party

Little mental health poem I wrote a few days ago. also starting to use this format for posting them; it's cleaner looking, I think.

"laying in my bed, I shake and wonder if this is how the deceased feel cold as ice to touch, no way to warm no matter how many layers of dirt lay on top of my body the manufactured air from my fan bites into my flesh violently like some reanimated corpse who yearns for nothing other than to bring me back under with it six feet beneath this coffin of ice and cotton this was a natural burial just the way I always wanted, untouched by chemicals or pretty makeup or fancy jewels dressing me up as the lady I never was who died much too young forever a tragedy of his own creation a rotting body under a stone with the wrong name."

Poem reads: "It’s so hard to breathe sometimes. The doctor’s told me it’s just asthma. I sat in their office, silent, knew their diagnosis was wrong. They gave me my medicine, went about their day. “This will make you better,” they’d say. I choke on the cold air filling my lungs, trying so hard just to suck in as much oxygen I can manage. I feel a familiar, scratchy sensation at the back of my throat. Fumbling for my inhaler, I press it against my lips. Relief never comes. I can’t breathe again. There’s something lodged in my airway. I almost wish I wasn’t used to it. I wish it wasn’t so familiar. So I could at least have a right to panic, instead of the numb acceptance of “oh, this is happening now,” feeling that I get. Clawing at my throat, I gasp for air, choking on the anomaly in my throat. Why won’t this stop? With a cough, I realize I’ve spat up the object settled into my windpipe. Holding my palms in front of me, hands shaking, a flower rests in my hands, petals coated with blood. My throat is raw and the taste of blood is overpowering. I resist the urge to vomit, looking at what could have been a beautiful flower, swaying on my feet. Why did this happen again? I just had another appointment—they said it would fix me. They said the medicine would help. They said it would go away. Why won’t it go away? Please. I just want to get better. I don’t want to be like this anymore. I hate being ill."

Poem reads: “Words have always come so hard for me. Especially as a writer. Stumbling over my sentences, re-writing words, looking at synonyms, trying to find the perfect word. As I stood, 10 years old, in the hallway of my childhood home, berated and screamed at for actions I did not commit, I realized something crucial. I am different, and always will be. As my tongue caught in my throat, the wrong words desperately falling from my lips in a plea to stand up for myself, to make myself heard for once, I realized that I was not a normal child. My declaration of innocence fell on deaf ears. My words rang in the air, but no one was listening. I messed it up again, my body didn't move in sync with my brain, betraying me. Marking me for death, for a fate I would have no say in. Why was anyone surprised when I stitched my mouth shut? My body would inevitably betray me, in the end. Spew the wrong words with the wrong meanings, mess everything up again.” Poem continues: “Why was anyone surprised when I silently laid my life down at people's feet, resigned to the fact I would die this way? And yet, it still hurt, seeing people get frustrated at my stitched mouth. Why couldn't I just talk? Explain my point of view? If I managed to pry open my sewed lips, blood dripping down my chin, would my words be coherent to any whose ears they fell upon? Or will I be once again doomed to inevitably fail, words coming out a choked warble of what they were once meant to be? One day, will my words fall on kind ears? Will they listen, even if the words falling from my bloody lips are broken and incoherent? Maybe, just maybe, I won't always need these stitches.”

Poem reads: "It has been so long since I have loved others softly. A little dog, gently accepting a treat from its owner's hand. Pressing its snout softly into their palm. Those soft nudges, over time, became little nips. Bites and snaps, jaws and teeth. With such a shortage of treats, this dog was so, so desperate for any scraps it could lick off the ground. Table scraps, from an owner, discarded. When the dog found a new owner, it found it could no longer take those treats with a gentle tongue. It's tongue against skin, taking treat, after treat, after treat. There is no shortage of treats here; of love. No need for mere table scraps. Warm bodies against each other, a feeling so foreign yet so, so desired. A sensation that they will never get used to, and eternally *crave*, like the wild animal they have become, and always will be."

First part of the poem reads: As a young child, I walked a straightforward path. Keep looking forward, walk straight, keep on the line. Whatever you do, don't fall behind. There will be rewards if you can manage to get ahead. Walking that straight path was always a challenge, even for tiny me. I always found myself lagging behind, tripping over my own shoelaces that I still couldn't learn to tie properly. Eyes wandering from the path ahead, glancing around my surroundings. Looking at the beautiful leaves as they fall. Stuttering over my own words, when they were supposed to come out cleanly. Getting stuck on math problems with too many words and graphs for me to understand. Forcing myself to fit into labels I despised. To wear makeup and pretty dresses to make myself "less ugly." Time after time, I watched myself lag behind. Until I could no longer keep up. The last part of the poem reads: I was praised for being so far ahead. Yet now, I lay crumbled in the dirt, watching everyone move on to the next stage without me. No one offered a hand to lift me off the ground. Only chanted words of degradation, that I should be ahead. Yet, did they ever lift a finger? I was never meant to walk that straight path. So when the time came for me to make a decision that would forever change the course of my life, standing at a fork in the road, I clawed my way off my hands and knees and altered my course. A phoenix- the death of a girl, a rebirth of a man. Like a semicolon, my story will not end here; this is only the beginning of a new chapter.

for now, I sit at the window with the little guy since it's cold as hell and it lets some sunlight in. and keeps him occupied from trying to get into various christmas decorations strewn about the house.

little update on the current #bookbinding project. I got the insides scooped out of the hardcover I'm using. got the spine of the cover mostly cleaned up.

UNFORTUNATELY my power is currently out, so I can't continue working on the formatting. 😭

Poem reads: Today is a day of giving thanks. That’s what I have always been told as a child, at least. Told the many things that I should be grateful for—my family, the food I had on my plate, the people smiling and laughing around me that I would come to lose many years later. But I never understood. Not truly. I’d nod, close my eyes, pretend to pray when our grandma spoke grace. I tune their words out. How could I concentrate when the scent of freshly baked pie was drifting through the room? We ate our fill. I only made one plate though. After all, I can’t be greedy, right? ‘Clean your plate. There are children out there who aren’t as fortunate as you,’ my father said. Today is a day of giving thanks, honor thy father and mother, my mother said. Of course, I nod. Surely, those much older and wiser than me, can do no harm? Those who bid me to eat everything off my plate, their child in tears, because what does it matter if you’re full? If you feel sick? There are children starving in the world. You should be thankful. ….. I have not celebrated thanksgiving since. Not truly. But this year, I truly do have something to be thankful for. This year I finally have someone that makes me thankful to feel the touch of another person’s skin against my own. See the sun as it rises and falls, and the moon takes it’s place in the sky. That my life didn’t end at the bottom of a bottle, or a tub. Thankful to finally have a home in this world. Today is a day of giving thanks.

poem reads: “To love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed.” A quote that has stuck with me since the 7th grade From a book I blindly pulled from my library's shelves, untouched by so many, With no idea this single book would subconsciously change my perception of love forever. A love so powerful, it consumes everything around it. Devours and ignites everything aflame. Nothing in the universe exists, no. Not when I see my golden boy. My boy with gold blood in his veins, a boy with fingers so thin and slender—an artists hands, able to spin a web of worlds and endless creations from his fingertips. A boy so beautiful, with his blonde curls resting against his freckled skin. poem continues: Blue eyes like the tide, deadly enough to pull you closer, yet there's something so hypnotic about the back and forth swaying of his waves. A siren’s voice, singing so melodically. I am merely a sailor in my siren's sea.

Shadows dance, a beautiful masquerade, dancers adored in gold and masks so delicate and deadly. Shadows dance across the ball; These people do not know today, they will not leave this deadly masquerade. Limbs forever stuck in limbo, doomed to stare into the lifeless eyes of their partner for eternity; never to leave this place of unending choreography.
