With you on the yams! I was put off yams/sweet potatoes for DECADES because of the traumatically gross marshmallow version. Now I eat them sensibly, with loads of butter and parmesan.

Loved this book! I've read a zillion accounts of doomed (Ant)Arctic expeditions and this one is a real standout among them.
