I got this for Christmas 2008. I liked it then and it still holds up. The reunited Guns have not released anything new that is remotely close to being as good as the best tracks on this album. Hell, I’d say they haven‘t released anything new that’s any good at all.

16 years ago, today, Rakim released his 3rd solo album. Aside from a few good (and one amazing) songs, ‘The Master’ was a disappointment after the career high of ‘The 18th Letter.’ This album was a refreshing return, imo, when it dropped. I remember hearing “Holy Are You” on Shade 45 & being hyped!

14 years ago, today, on Halloween II (internat’l release date was 10-31), Lou Reed released his last album. Not only is it one of his best works, but one of his most punk (along with Metal Machine Music) b/c not only was it abrasive, it pissed off Metallica fans, rather than capitalize off them.

One of my most favorite horror soundtracks is ‘Psycho III.’ I was obsessed with the books and film series around 4th grade (I went as Norman as his mother for Halloween.) I found this tape on the discount rack at Walgreens, so I heard it before even seeing the movie (which took a bit cuz it was R)

30 years ago, today, saw the release of one of most anticipated albums of my life. I could not wait for this to drop. Every year, since, it’s been my own personal Halloween album.

Come to think, I also wanted to be Arnold’s T-800 from T2 in the 3rd grade. That costume just did not exist, back then. You could pull it off with leathers, shades and a shotgun but I wanted to be Terminator from the final act of the movie, with the machine exposed under the skin of the face.

Teen Wolf woulda been another. I went as a generic Wolfman instead. My favorite Halloween costume was my last: Norman Bates dressed as his mother. I am on a mission to locate the photo of me in costume, from 4th grade.

This would be Dave Navarro’s only album with the Peppers, as by 1997 he and Flea would be joining Jane’s Addiction for a reunion tour (as well as new music.) I bought this on cassette in 1995 and I wish I could find that tape, right now
