A6 5/5: Of course, read Dr. April Baker-Bell’s work on Anti-Black Linguistic Racism. But also read Dr. Smitherman’s classic 1977 Talkin and Testifyin: The Language of Black America, which Dr. Baker-Bell draws and builds upon heavily in her 2020 monograph.

A6 2/5: I really love Dr. Lanehart’s Language in African American Communities. It’s probably the text I would use as a great overview with students or pre-service/in-service teachers with its multimodal resources/references.
