Thronesdb Random for 20/12 can be used as a tempo hit, or a trick to set up MIL Claim or Marched. It can also be used for the Castle Guard synergy we discussed last week to 'trap' a non shadows character in Shadows.

Thronesdb Random for 19/12 was the hot new kill spell on the streets when I was Baratheon Regent for Thrones WAR UK in 2019. (This was a team event with a player draft/auction). But yeah, converting soft control to hard control in an in Faction way seems good.

Thrones Thundamentals today is the basics of the Challenges phase!

In player order, each player may initiate up to one challenge of each of the three types.

In order to be declared as attackers or defenders, characters need to have the icon that corresponds to the challenge type...

Thronesdb Random for 18/12 is a card that rarely left the binder but it feels like such a cute homage to the mechanics Lanni had back in 1.0 and CCG. 'Lose to win' effects used to be secondary in Lanni back in CCG and 1.0 Lanni manipulated power on Characters. The 'bounce' is very 2.0 Lanni tho.

You will be spirited by three visits.

Hang on that didn't sound right fsr.

Thrones Thundamentals time! Let's look at Character Card anatomy with help from the OG 2.0 Tricon!

Working from top-down we can see:

Income: Euron costs 7 gold to marshall into play

Challenge icons: These tell us which challenges Euron can be declared as attacker or defender in, all 3 types here.

Thronesdb Random for 17/12 is a quite recent GOT era retrain of a CCG card that was known to be bad. I wonder if he's anymore playable in 2.0 with the higher cost curve, the bigger importance of the Lord tarot and lesser punishments for being an Ally.

For today's Thrones Thundamentals, let's take a look at the USP of Thrones, The Plot Phase!

Each player secretly selects a plot from their plot deck of 7* cards. Plots are then revealed simultaneously and the winner of initiative determines first player and resolved any when revealed effects....

Thronesdb Random for 16/12 is a GOT era design that seems a 'fun of, one of' for GJ Qohor or GJ Valyrian Steel.

Curiously, the art is recycled from 1.0's Bronze Link, a neutral non unique attachment 😂. In fairness, the Bronze Link is wrapped around A Myrish Eye (not sure why this is unique at all).

Starting a new bit I'm calling 'Thrones Thundamentals'

Let's learn the phases, with help from the old Stark House Card.

Plot: Players select their plot for the round, determining their income, initiative, claim, and reserve stats.

Draw: Players each draw 2 cards.

Marshalling: The 'main phase'...

Thronesdb Random for 15/12 is a Bara Character that could have just have easily been Tyrell or Lanni, Bonnifer the Hasty doesn't seem to be fussy which side the Holy Hundred* fight for. Seems a good body for Baratheon Faith Militant but also a generic top down design to do so.

*There's only 86 atm

Goodness, I've accidentally tested Standard (MtG) from 6am-10pm and almost forgot our Thronesdb Random for 14/10!

And to be fair it's pretty forgettable! Northern Refugee is a cheap and expendable claim soak body that was a staple of Free Folk decks and okay in other Winter attrition decks.
December 14, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Thronesdb Random for 13/12 is a cancel for a Faction that doesn't normally get cancels. But it's been done in a way that respects Baratheon's Faction identity and being great, thematic, top-down card design. It cemented Baratheon as Soft Control that could beat up Hard Control decks.

Thronesdb Random for 12/11 is a free, surprise INT defender that's great in NW Wall Defence. He even saw play in an infamous Martell Alliance Watch Stag passive power control deck as the only character! While good, he is effectively a fixed version of 1.0s 'Jumping Cat's who I'll post below 👇
December 12, 2025 at 9:26 AM
Thronesdb Random for 11/12 is part of the Core Set cycle of okay vanilla 2 drops with Traits that Faction would eventually support. Bastards became a fringe strategy in Martell Stag/ Bara Sun decks and I played against a Uniting the Realm Bastards deck at Stahleck. Iconic flavour text tbh.
December 11, 2025 at 8:05 AM
Thronesdb Random for 10/12 Is a Draft only reprint of an iconic 1.0 Prized plot. Of course in 1.0, you could just splash Out of House cards for a +2 gold penalty. A build around in Draft with Uniting as agenda and a win condition for 1.0 HoD Iron Wind (a warship which cheated in 2 drops) decks.

This is kinda both!

Thronesdb Random for 9/12 is a card I played once at a tournament where I randomised myself on to Targ Crossing. I built a deck around discard/recursion and spent more time practicing saying "Trigger The Skahazadhan" than I did building the deck. I missed the cut on Strength of Schedule. Good times.

Thronesdb Random for 8/12 is the champ card of a friend! Not my kind of card, but very true to design principles. Incidental pseudo Insight based on Uniques and/or Direwolves is very Stark in every edition. The effect is very Stark Direwolf templating but pays homage to one of the NW Ghosts.
December 8, 2025 at 9:35 AM
Thronesdb Random for 7/12 saw play in some early control and combo decks. It's a card that could only exist in 2.0, as (non shadow) events in CCG and 1.0 had no printed costs, but would often be templated with a cost in the effect text (usually Influence). This also wouldn't help shadow events...
