@patrickklepek.bsky.social I was baffled by your insistence that Pluribus, unlike Breaking Bad you said, "is NOT a comedy" and takes the whole thing very seriously. I would say there are certainly serious moments in the show, but...did you see the second episode? This is what I posted about it.

@devindra.bsky.social Thank you, Devindra! It has been driving me nuts that none of the podcasts covering PLURIBUS, and virtually none of the people commenting online about it, have made that parallel to MRS. DAVIS.

Vikings have a WR who is the best in the league at his position, and his name is not Justin Jefferson.

@jeffcannata.bsky.social understands ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER better than @devindra.bsky.social does--or at least vibes with it more. Jeff is spot on that the shadowy ultra-left and ultra-right wing organizations in the movie most resemble the strawman caricatures each side draws of the other.

This graph shows a huge amount "trickling down" to the bottom across the world. The two richest cohorts are dramatically increasing in size, while the poorest is declining dramatically. "The rich get richer, and the poor get less poor" doesn't have the same ring to it, but it happens to be true. 🤷‍♂️

It's not just the things he says and the way he's styled, but his accent and the way he's constantly snorting and snuffling and hocking loogies everywhere. Pitt plays opposite David Duchovny, whose character is the cool, sophisticated, handsome and well-dressed/well-spoken male protag of the film.

@jeffcannata.bsky.social I felt your comparison of Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, in terms of allowing themselves to look bad, was slightly unfair to Pitt, although I can provide you only one counterexample. Maybe you haven't seen it, but in 1993's Kalifornia, Pitt's redneck character is super gross.

Only four of you pointed that out! I thought the peeps in my Vikings tab would have a field day but no one mentioned it, so I started to wonder if I had imagined it--especially when there was no correction or even attempt to say his name again the correct way.

I was skeptical all along, because it was just too hard for me to imagine that a right winger would pick Charlie Kirk of all people to shoot. A lot of people on the left ended up with egg on their face because they assumed a man would have the same politics as his parents.

You might still argue that a human would spot the potential ambiguity and avoid this construction, but I never saw it--and I got a perfect score on both the English and Reading sections of the ACT. 🤷

Any idea what his mom, and then the lady in yellow, are signaling with their hand gestures at around the same point in line when greeting the ball kids at the award ceremony?
July 14, 2025 at 3:58 AM
Does anyone know what to make of the gesture (looks like either a refusal of some request, or an assurance to someone apologizing that "it's OK, don't worry about it") made both by Kate Middleton, and then the woman in yellow, at around the same point in the ball kids line at the trophy ceremony?

It appears that the embedded videos have been replaced by ads? Or do I need to use something other than Chrome?

The Bryan brothers, who have won so many major titles as a doubles team, say that when people who aren't hardcore tennis fans come over and see their trophy case, it's always the Olympic medals they are most interested in by far. Why wouldn't Jefferson want some of that juice?

@jamieloftus.bsky.social Been enjoying Lolita Podcast, but you said age 16 is "not the age of consent". Actually, it is in the majority of US states.

It occurs to me that people might read this and wonder about my tastes: "Okay, pal: what do YOU think are the best films of 2024?" Because I live in the middle of nowhere and have so little money, I tend not to see things until years after they come out; but FWIW, here are my top 20 of all time.
