OK. I can't see any problems from this end, people do seem to have created and edited their profiles. But it's possible there's something wrong! Try in an incognito window or a different browser?

OK! I've not seen anything like that before. Although there is no app, just a website - if you're using your phone, perhaps something is cached and it's loading part of the old site? If you're on a computer holding shift and refresh on the page might help?

OK, that's not great! Does it say it's posting? The changes are appearing on your profile and then... disappearing when you refresh your browser?

tldr: SkySpace sort-of-worked before and should sort-of-work better now. Thank you all for playing around with it! 🥳

For now the site still falls back to reading #skyspace posts if it can't find the new records so old designs will still display. Profiles created with the new records should be permanent. Theoretically. It's untested (who wants to think about the future?) but, well, that's what a Beta is for.

(*Interests currently uses the old method but I hope to move it to the Content record at some point. It's a little trickier and I need a break.)

🖼️ Aesthetic posts (e.g. backgrounds, pointers, etc.) now write to private records, structured in a way that's easily parsed and that I can add to later.

📝 Content-related posts (e.g. music, top 8) write to private records AND make (hidden) public posts, because I want them to be searchable on BSky.

I thought a refactor might be painful (I'm learning all of this as I go) (and I have a day job and three games to finish!!!) (I'm really excited to show one of them to you) (Soon).

Guess what?? It was!! I hated it! But it is done*. So...
March 12, 2025 at 12:59 AM
The site began as a joke for my friends and in that context this kind of sketchy semi-permanence was absolutely fine. But it spread beyond that and so Something Had To Be Done.
March 12, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Still, there was another problem (beyond the weird and basically unsustainable structure). For boring API-related reasons profiles would start to disappear to non-logged-in viewers after SkySpace users had made lots of posts. 😬
March 12, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Then I added deliberate edits (using that tag, posted through Bluesky), then native posting from SkySpace itself, then the form. And it all worked fine! Basically! As long as you don't think too hard about it! Or at all about the future!!

Not thinking about the future rn is really tempting. 👀

Prior to this version profile edits relied on finding and parsing posts under the #skyspace tag. This was a product of the way I originally thought of SkySpace: a quick skin that would interpret posts that were already in your timeline.
March 12, 2025 at 12:59 AM
First, a caveat: if you have a profile already it'll display as one but when you make new edits sections will reset. It should only take a couple of moments to fix (my hint: save your background URL, that's the annoying one).

SORRY. But it's for the greater good.
March 12, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Are you logged in? If you're viewing your profile logged out and you've posted quite a lot since you made the changes they may not appear - if you log in it SHOULD all still be there and a trivial edit will bump it all to the top again. This will change in v1 and it should be more permanent...

Fantastic, thank you!

Oh, thank you! I don't use Spotify so I'd have missed that. Can you give me an example of what it does, and what it should be?
