FND is more than just seizures. Although my seizures are bad and debilitating, people still struggle to understand all of the symptoms I suffer from. I feel like most people with FND and similar conditions know this feeling. Raising awareness is important.
1. What is FND? Functional neurological disorder as a problem with the functioning of the nervous system, and how the body and brain send and receive signals. 2. What causes it? Despite the prevalence of functional neurological disorder of the exact cause of FND is unknown. 3. Who gets it? FND can affect anyone at any time although it is uncommon and children under 10. 4. What are the symptoms? Bladder and bowel changes, chronic pain, cognitive changes, gait and balance problems, headaches, and migraines, involuntary movements, paralysis and weakness, functional seizures, sensory changes, sleep, disturbances, speech problems, visual changes. Patients do not have to be stressed, depressed or anxious to develop functional symptoms nor have they have had to have had an adverse childhood experience. Functional neurological disorder symptoms include: Functional seizures, dizziness, walking difficulty, weakness, dystonia migraine, chronic pain, numbness, memory issues, sleep issues, functional tremors, paralysis, sensory issues, swallowing issues, and spasms. Symptoms of functional neurological disorder: Functional limb, weakness, functional tremors, blackouts, and attacks functional dystonia spasms, sensory symptoms, functional walking problems, pain, tiredness, and fatigue sleep problems for memory and concentration, disassociation, worry and panic, dizziness, headache, low mood, facial spasm, visual symptoms, functional jerks, and twitches, slow speech, bladder symptoms, bowel symptoms, drop attack, swallowing problems, complex, regional pain, health, anxiety, post concussion syndrome, and word finding difficulty.
