As someone who lives in Scotland I’d doubt his intervention will do all that much. I’ve never known such dislike of Labour as there is right now, including among normal supporters. However much Sarwar might want it not to be, the election will in large part be a referendum on Starmer’s govt.

Good essay. I always find it hard to comprehend how uninformed some Americans can be about Britain, even though I realise that’s down to those people being in a walled-off echo chamber. I’m booked to visit the US (again) this year but I’m not sure whether I want to any more. And I love America.

That approach wouldn’t satisfy either the ‘Starmer must go’ or the ‘McSweeney must go’ camps and would guarantee that the furore would continue.

Things get darker and darker every week. Until recently I’d have said that those suggesting Trump would challenge and overturn bad mid-term results were getting hysterical. Now I’m in that camp.

Grim is the word. Every week seems to add another layer onto the destruction of America and its institutions by Trump and his acolytes. It’s getting harder to keep the faith that a correction is coming.
